A person becomes a Christian by placing his or her faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Each individual must know certain truths to exercise genuine faith. First, according to Romans 3:23 “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” A person must believe that he is a sinner. Because God is holy sin must be paid for, and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
God loves people and therefore sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for sins (Romans 5:8). Jesus became sin on the cross and incurred the wrath of God which each person deserves. Jesus died spiritually and physically on the cross and was buried. The third day God raised Jesus from the dead. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
This verse sums up how a person can be saved- by faith in what Christ has done for you. You must be willing to trust no longer in your own works, your righteousness, or your service, but only in the finished work of Jesus Christ. If you are willing to transfer your faith from self to the Savior, God will save you and make you a Christian.
